• "I find that somehow, by shifting the focus of attention, I become the very thing I look at, and experience the kind of consciousness it has; I become the inner witness of the thing. I call this capacity of entering other focal points of consciousness, love; you may give it any name you like. Love says "I am everything". Wisdom says "I am nothing". Between the two, my life flows. Since at any point of time and space I can be both the subject and the object of experience, I express it by saying that I am both, and neither, and beyond both."

  • Ode To Sibyllae...

For Sibyllae, a dear soul-friend of many years. She is an artistic genius and living high priestess of perfume arts, herbalism, prose, spirit and all things beautiful and magical. Visit her site at Sibyllae! She is a living muse and a kindred spirit whose beautiful soul I greatly admire.

Opening Reception Photos

Friday night went very well, and I received some fantastic feedback on my work. It was very inspiring, and reminds me that despite my million art projects, I need to start throwing energy on my photography again. I had approximately 50 pieces of my recent work on display. I created a photo album of the opening night photos on Flickr. You can see all of them by clicking on the photo below. Thanks to everyone for all of your supportive e-mails this week!

Opening Reception This Friday 08/08

The opening reception for my exhibition is this Friday evening. I don’t know many people in Rhode Island, so if you are an art lover in Rhode Island, please stop by and enjoy what is sure to be a fun night! I will have over 50 new and early works on exhibition, many of which have never been exhibited before.

Join me at the Hive Gallery in the Hope Artiste Village. 1005 Main street, Suite 109 on the Providence/Pawtucket line. Hors d’ouvres and spirits will be served. See you there!

Wounds

beyond the dream of living,
out where memory has its way,
somewhere i slipped

into the delicate

to stay.

feathers bend to touch the wind.
I long to taste your mind,
but tongues cannot reach stars.
if I bring you scars and lilac wine
how will they fill your arms?

the bars were made from living.
I haven’t the strength
to tear their razor beams apart
today I cowered in the corner of myself
picking through the heart.

you see the surface melt away
there is something in me that you love
i cannot find the words to tell you
that you visit me in prison
and the warden quakes above

The Beekeeper

The Beekeeper

The Beekeeper, 2008

Take me to the brim of self
Where truth and dream collide
I’ve made a ladder from the shelf
Where my sadness likes to hide

Take me to the edge of time
Where Sufis softly whirl
In the belly of a shell
Where pain will
render me a pearl
dropping jewels like rain
From the mantle of my hell

I want to be free of names
the body is just
The dying posture of a song
Always suckling dust for milk
Trading bits of fire for silk
Then going up in shimmering flames
So soft, this breath
A constant death
a teasing of the veins
I love it, still.

Temenos, I have heard of you
In the heartbeat of a bee
Once you trickled thick into my throat
And kept my lifeless limbs afloat
On your propolis voiced sea

I’ve been all wrapped up in bee energy lately, primarily as a result of being absolutely absorbed by the book: The Shamanic Way of The Bee: Ancient Wisdom And Healing Practices Of The Bee Masters. The above image and poem were inspired by the poetic revelations of ancient wisdom contained in this unusual book. I have always had a fascination with both apiology and shamanism, but never realized that there was an ancient practice than ran between the two. It only makes sense. In the story of the bee there are a million metaphors and perceptions waiting to be peeled back. You’ll notice I’ve also added a bee to the top of this blog. I think they have become my totem insect, if there is such a thing. I had started taking bee pollen and royal jelly a few weeks ago, and then this book literally fell into my hands. Triple ironic is the name of the gallery where I am having my show in August is called “The Hive”. Funny how certain themes work their way into our lives! I

Life Images Magazine Summer 2008

I am honored to have received a two page feature in the Summer 2008 issue of Life Images magazine. Life Images is published by Stampington & Company, which publishes some of my favorite art magazines…so I was especially excited when I was invited by the editor to have not only one of my self-portraits featured, but a poem as well! They also have included me in the Behind The Lens feature of the magazine, which features brief biographies of selected artists from that issue. My first print publication. YAY!

You should be able to find this magazine in the art section of your local Borders and Barnes & Noble. This issue is a really stunning one, packed with incredible photography and poetry by artists all over the world.

The image that I chose was Self Portrait As Memory, coupled with the following poem:

the heart does not speak of beats
i know you feel what words could never say
time and tide dictate the whittling of the day
in advances and retreats
some day we will be free

we are mirrors broken
every one
throwing veins of light
against the sun

in my garden bower
a heliotrope throws itself to the ground

i cannot tell you the taste of it
love is an animal that eats the tongue
and never makes a sound
